The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky congratulated the new absolute world boxing champion, the Ukrainian Alexander Usik. The head of state expressed his congratulations on Sunday, May 19, on his Telegram page.
“Ukrainians attack strongly. And in the end, all our opponents will be defeated. Oleksandr Usyk is the absolute champion of the world! A tough battle that proves: Ukrainian endurance and strength give birth to Ukrainian victory . Congratulations, champion! Congratulations, country! ” – wrote the president.
In addition, Usik was greeted by the mayor of Kyiv and former world boxing champion Vitaliy Klitschko.
“Today Usik not only unified all the professional boxing belts in the heavyweight division, winning the title of absolute world champion Alexander once again proved that he is a fighter and showed the world that the Ukrainians are capable of defeating a strong opponent in a difficult battle, Alexander, this victory is very important for Ukraine!
On the evening of May 19, in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, a historic fight took place between the Ukrainian boxer Alexander Usik and the British Tyson Fury, as a result of which Usik won.
WBA, WBO and IBF world champion Usyk meets in the ring with WBC title holder Fury. They fought for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion.
After 12 rounds of the fight, Usik won by decision of the judges.
As a result of the fight, Usyk retained the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO titles, and also won the WBC belt, which belonged to Fury.
A day before it was reported that around 30 Ukrainian veterans came to Riyadh to support the Ukrainian boxer. The delegation included miners and energy workers from DTEK, metallurgists and miners from Metinvest, and defenders of Mariupol who returned to their jobs from the front.
