The Ukrainian Armed Forces need more long-range weapons to hit targets deep along the front line.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock called on the West to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles, citing the critical situation on the front, Politico wrote.
Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting of European foreign ministers in Strasbourg, Annalena Burbock called the military situation in northeastern Ukraine “very dramatic”, as Russia advances on the battlefield. Therefore, he is convinced, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need more long-range weapons so that they can hit targets deep in the front line, that is, “at medium and long distances.”
The publication says his words are likely to be seen as increasing pressure on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to provide Ukraine with Taurus long-range missiles, which Germany has not yet considered sending.
“We are also doing this with other partners,” Burbock said, adding that the Ukrainians are in a “very difficult situation.”
It was previously reported that the German government is against “interference in the conflict” between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, while statements were heard in the Bundestag about the correctness of such a proposal. The German government believes that the participation of aircraft or air defense systems of NATO countries in repelling Russian air attacks in the western part of Ukraine would be “direct participation of the Alliance in the conflict.”
