The sanctions included Voice of Europe, RIA Novosti, Izvestia and Rossiyskaya Gazeta for spreading propaganda and supporting the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine. The press service of the Council of the EU reported this on May 17.
It is noted that these media are under constant direct or indirect control of the leadership of the aggressor country and play an important role in the deployment and support of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as in the destabilization of its neighboring countries.
Brussels also clarified that the suspension of broadcasting will not prevent these media and their employees from carrying out activities other than broadcasting in the European Union, for example, conducting research and interviews.
Let us recall that on May 1, the United States Department of the Treasury announced sanctions against almost 200 individuals and legal entities that contribute to the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation and help it evade restrictions already imposed.
