About 4,500 prisoners in Ukraine agree that a law on parole through military service should be adopted.
In Ukraine, about 5,000 prisoners have agreed to come forward in exchange for parole if the corresponding law is passed. This was said by the Deputy Minister of Justice Elena Vysotskaya in an interview with the Commander-in-Chief.
According to him, in April a survey was conducted among prisoners, in which they were asked if it was necessary to pass a law on parole by concluding a contract for military service. About 4,500 convicts answered “yes.”
The deputy minister noted that the prisoners were not questioned under articles of the Criminal Code, some of which were not subject to mobilization. Also, their health status is not taken into account. At the same time, approximately 4,000 prisoners diagnosed with socially dangerous diseases such as HIV, hepatitis, and tuberculosis were rejected.
As of May 15, there were 27,471 prisoners in Ukrainian colonies, including 1,538 women.
Let’s recall that on May 8, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a bill on the mobilization of certain categories of convicts. Certain categories of convicts are prohibited from mobilization, in particular, high-ranking corrupt officials convicted of premeditated murder, rape, and sexual violence.
