We are talking about projects in critical areas, including cyber defense, ground, air and sea combat.
The European Commission has announced the results of competitions under the European Defense Fund worth more than one billion euros in support of 54 outstanding joint European defense research and development projects. It was reported by the European Commission.
Selected projects will support technological excellence in a wide range of defense capabilities in critical domains, including cyber defense, land, air and sea warfare, space asset protection or chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense.
For example, the MARTE and FMBTech projects will bring together more than 70 industrial players and research organizations to work on the design and systems of a main battle tank platform to be used across Europe.
Funding will also go to projects that support the strategic airlift of large cargo, a key capability to rapidly support missions around the world.
As part of the EU Defense Innovation Scheme (EUDIS), SMEs, start-ups and new entrants to the defense sector have reportedly taken advantage of the range of opportunities provided under the 2023 European Defense Fund funding round. For the first time, four projects will support the transfer of civilian innovation to the defense sector.
Let’s remember that the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, called on the EU to continue a “war.”
