The aim is to challenge and subvert the fetishistic social vision that objectifies, criminalizes and hypersexualizes
“Angu” premieres at Sesc Ipiranga, in São Paulo, on May 25th, with performances by actors Alexandre Paz, João Mabial and Orlando Caldeira. The play portrays stories of black and gay people, exploring the experience of black gay men through six parallel narratives. The goal is to challenge and subvert the fetishistic social vision that objectifies, criminalizes and hypersexualizes these identities.
In addition to denouncing the violence faced by this population, the montage celebrates and exalts icons such as Madame Satã, Gilberto França, the dancer Reinaldo Pepe, the Queer duo Les Etoiles and Jorge Laffond.
The show is part of the Sesc Festival of Black Cultures, which debuts its first edition in 2024, with the purpose of valuing, recognizing and spreading Afro-diasporic culture.
“Angu” will be on display from May 25th to June 23rd, with sessions on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and on Sundays and public holidays (5/30) at 6pm. The presentations on May 25th and 26th are part of the Sesc Festival of Black Cultures. Tickets will be available online from May 14th, at 5pm, on the Credencial Sesc SP App, and in person at the box office from May 15th, at 5pm.
Sesc Ipiranga is located at Rua Bom Pastor, 822.
