One of the goals of the Russian invaders today is the gas infrastructure in western Ukraine, the president said.
President Vladimir Zelensky spoke on the phone with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The Ukrainian leader announced this on Telegram on Thursday, May 16.
“He was told about the trip to Kharkov and the situation on the ground. In particular, about Ukraine’s urgent need for air defense to protect Kharkov and other regions,” he wrote.
Zelensky recalled that one of the goals of the Russian Federation today is gas infrastructure in western Ukraine.
“Russia’s success there will endanger Europe’s energy security, we must together find a way to counter it,” the president said.
Zelensky and Tusk also instructed their teams to immediately start working on the text of a bilateral security agreement.
“Between historical partners, it should be as ambitious as possible,” the Ukrainian leader stressed.
During negotiations with partners who can share air defense systems with Ukraine, various solutions are considered, the diplomat said.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that Poland has the ability to occupy the western regions of Ukraine using Patriot air defense systems. According to him, “everything is real now.”
