The indicators for the granting of such visas to Russian citizens began to fall sharply in the last two years.
Russians submitted more than 520 thousand requests for Schengen visas in 2023, which is 24% less than in 2022 (687 thousand). Of these, 10.6% were rejected. In addition, the share of issued multiple-entry visas decreased seven times compared to 2019. This is confirmed by statistics published by the European Commission.
Among the visas issued to Russians, the share of multiple-entry visas was 220.9 thousand, or 49% – half as much as in 2022. Then the number of multiple-entry visas issued was 439 thousand, and their share was 72% More than 54 thousand applicants were denied visas.
The total number of applications for Schengen visas submitted from all countries of the world in 2023 reached more than 10.3 million Visas were granted to 8.49 million applicants, the rejection rate was 16% compared to 2022, it decreased by almost 2%. Most visa applications were submitted by Chinese citizens (1.1 million). Turkey is in second place (1 million), India is in third (966 thousand), and Morocco is in fourth (591 thousand). Russia is in fifth place in terms of the number of requests.
Last year it became known that in Russia the demand for visas and tours to Europe increased by 40%.
