The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klimenko announced this today, May 16, in his Telegram channel.
As of now, according to operational information, the Russian military, who were trying to gain a foothold in the city, did not allow local residents to evacuate: people began to be kidnapped and driven into basements,” he noted.
Klimenko noted that until today, evacuation continued in that area – the National Police did not stop removing people despite all the threats and under fire.
It is also known about the first executions of civilian Russian military personnel.
In particular, one of the residents of Volchansk tried to escape on foot and refused to follow the commands of the invaders – the Russians killed him, the minister noted.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding violations of the rules and customs of war.
Evacuation groups of the National Police of Ukraine continue to work in Volchansk, despite intense military clashes, and are trying to ensure further evacuation of people, Klymenko added.
