Slovakia’s Prime Minister is in critical condition after an assassination attempt. The attacker fired five shots.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot five times and is in critical condition. This was announced on Wednesday, May 15, by the Minister of the Interior of Slovakia, Matus Shutai-Eshtok, The Guardian reports.
“The attacker fired five shots in an assassination attempt,” the minister said.
He added that the prime minister was in a “critical condition”.
According to the minister, the first information “clearly indicates a political motivation” for the attack.
He also called on journalists and politicians to “stop spreading hate” on social media.
“What happened was sown by many of you and your hatred,” the Slovak official said.
Later, the TA3 TV channel reported that Fico’s operation lasted 3 hours and 40 minutes. It was noted that the most important artery was not damaged.
Local media also reported that Fico was in an induced coma after the operation.
Let’s remember that on May 15, Robert Fico was shot after a government meeting in Gandlova. The attacker was detained at the scene. His motive is currently unknown.
It was later learned that Fico had been taken by helicopter to the Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bystrica. He was taken on a stretcher to the intensive care unit. The officer is in serious condition.
