In total, two coins were issued. It shows Queen Wilhelmina at age 10.
At an auction in IJsselstein, Netherlands, a Dutch guilder quarter coin issued in 1891 sold for more than one million euros. NOS reports it.
Before the auction, auctioneer Jako Scheper called the coin the “holy grail” of Dutch coins. Only two such coins were issued. The coin depicts Queen Wilhelmina at 10 years old, almost immediately after her accession to the throne.
The silver coin is in very good condition and is the only one of its kind in circulation. The second copy is in the possession of the Netherlands Bank.
Over the past 130 years, the coin has been offered at auction four times, most recently in 2001 for 95,000 guilders.
It was previously reported that British artist Paul Trevillion planned to sell an autographed portrait of Winston Churchill at auction.
