A fire occurred in Balashikha near Moscow at the substation of the local Progress plant, on the territory of which the military unit 35533 of the FSB of the Russian Federation is located.

A fire at an electrical substation in Balashikha occurred the night before, on May 14, the Russian independent TG channel Astra wrote in connection with a message from the city administration.
The administration said that the cause of the fire was a “short circuit”, but the head of the city remained silent about the reasons. The media wrote that the cause could be arson.
As Astra found out, the fire occurred in a substation of the local Progress plant, on the territory of which the military unit 35533 of the FSB of the Russian Federation is located.
According to the website Agentura.ru, this military unit is part of the Scientific and Technical Service of the FSB of the Russian Federation, the center develops, produces and tests electronic media of various programs for companies of military and civilian of the country.
It was also reported that in 2012, FBI employees stopped the illegal purchase of microelectronics in the United States, the last buyer of which was a research institute under the FSB. Electronics must be specifically transferred to military unit 35533.
According to the publication, previously in the USSR it was the Central Research Institute of Special Equipment (TsNIIST) as part of the Operational and Technical Directorate of the KGB under the USSR Council of Ministers. For purposes of secrecy, it was called the Progress plant. In 1955, the Central Scientific and Technical Bureau of Operational Equipment was transformed into the Central Scientific Research Institute of Special Equipment.
