The Moldovan Foreign Ministry confirmed that the country will cooperate with the EU within the framework of an agreement in the field of security and defense, which the parties will conclude in the near future. This was reported by the Moldovan publication NewsMaker.
The Foreign Ministry explained that the partnership will work as an umbrella mechanism for all steps of interaction between Moldova and the EU.
“The Security and Defense Partnership is a political agreement to expand cooperation in the field of security and defense that Moldova will conclude with the EU in the near future in accordance with the goals set in the National Security Strategy of our country aimed at establishing similar cooperation with country with which his cooperation is most progressive,” the diplomatic department said.
It is reported that most of the proposals stipulated by the partnership have already been implemented, and the signing of the agreement itself will be the basis for more systematic cooperation with the EU.
As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, on the basis of this partnership, Moldova and the EU will discuss the situation in the field of security and defense, and they will also be able to combine thematic dialogues in several areas of interest each other.
It was also mentioned that the document will not have the status of an international agreement; it is based on political obligations.
It was previously reported that the European Union has started the procedure of screening the Moldovan law, which is mandatory when a candidate country joins the EU.
The Parliament of Moldova, in a meeting on April 12, approved in the second reading the decision to terminate the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE).
