For this money they plan to buy more than three thousand large-caliber 155-mm shells. Also in June, Riga will transfer a thousand combat drones to Kyiv.
The Latvian government on Tuesday, May 14, allocated 10 million euros for the purchase of artillery ammunition for Ukraine as part of the Czech initiative. In addition, another batch of drones will be delivered to Ukraine in the summer, Delfi reports.
Defense Minister Andris Spruds said that with the allocated money they plan to buy more than three thousand large caliber 155-mm shells.
Sprudes added that 100 drones were recently sent to Ukraine. They plan to send a second batch of about 1,000 combat drones of various powers in June. Currently, the countries participating in the drone coalition have announced funding of more than half a billion euros for the purchase of drones.
The minister recalled that in this and the next two years Latvia will provide military support to Ukraine in the amount of 0.25% of the gross domestic product. This year it is 112 million euros.
It was previously reported that Latvia will transfer drones and radars of its own production to Ukraine.
Also, Latvia, as part of the IT coalition initiative, donated communication equipment to Ukraine worth about 100 thousand euros, which should provide brigades with tactical level communications.
