The head of the Kremlin signed a decree appointing Andrei Belousov as the new Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin signed a decree appointing Andrei Belousov as Minister of Defense in place of Sergei Shoigu. The Kremlin press service reported this on Tuesday, May 14.
Putin also signed decrees appointing other ministers: the heads of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Agriculture.
The remaining heads of departments remained in their positions without changes, including Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin and FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov.
Let’s recall that on May 12 it became known that Putin proposed to appoint First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov as Minister of Defense instead of Sergei Shoigu.
Putin reportedly appointed Shoigu as Secretary of the Russian Security Council, and fired the former Secretary of the Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, due to a transfer to another job.
The US State Department said the decision to replace Shoigu as defense minister shows Putin’s desperation.
