The unannounced visit took place on Tuesday morning, May 14th. This visit was the first visit by a high-ranking American official to Ukraine since Washington adopted a $61 billion military aid package. The purpose of the visit is to demonstrate solidarity in the context of the latest military assistance packages for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Reuters writes about this.
It is noted that this visit should demonstrate US solidarity with Ukraine, whose army is trying to repel the offensive of the Russian occupiers and massive bombing on the northeastern border with Russia in the Kharkov region.
One of the delegation officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Blinken hoped to “send a strong signal of reassurance to Ukrainians who are obviously in a very difficult situation.”
The State Secretary himself also commented on his arrival in the Ukrainian capital.
“Today I returned to Kyiv to demonstrate our strong support for Ukraine, which defends its freedom from Russian aggression,” the official wrote on the social network Kh.
Let us recall that in April, Antony Blinken stated that ending the war in Ukraine depended on Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, who allegedly announced the start of negotiations, but did not intend to make any concessions. He confirmed the US readiness to participate in negotiations if Russia demonstrates a genuine readiness for dialogue.
