Presidential elections and a referendum on the legalization of multiple citizenships are taking place in Lithuania. This is what Delfi reported on Sunday, May 12.
So, today at 07:00, 1,895 polling stations were opened throughout Lithuania. They are open until 20:00.
Eight candidates are vying for the presidency of Lithuania. Among them are the current leader Gitanas Nausėda, the nominated conservative Prime Minister Ingridė Šimonytė, the representative of the Freedom Party, the former head of the Constitutional Court Dainius Žalimas, the self-nominated candidate Ignas Vēgeli , the founder of the Neman Dawn party. Remigius Žemaitataitis and Labor Party leader Andrius Mazuronis.
The winner is the candidate who receives more than 50% of the votes. If no candidate achieves a majority, a second round of elections will take place two weeks later, in which the two candidates who received the most votes in the first round will participate. Whoever receives an absolute majority in the second round will be considered the winner.
Also today, a referendum on the legalization of multiple citizenship is being held in Lithuania.
According to the local Main Electoral Commission, as of 09:00, 14.44% of voters cast their ballots.
We remind you that the opposition won the presidential elections in North Macedonia. In the second round, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received about 65% of the votes.
