The Russian Federation is building facilities in central Belarus that can house nuclear warheads.

It became known where Minsk plans to build a cache for nuclear weapons. The New York Times on Friday, May 10, published satellite images of a military base near the Belarusian city of Osipovichi, showing structures typical of Russian nuclear weapons storage facilities.

Here, according to the newspaper, are located the Iskander missiles, which can be used to launch nuclear or conventional warheads.

“Russia has nuclear warheads on its own territory, located near Ukraine and NATO countries, but by placing some of them in Belarus, the Kremlin appears to be trying to highlight the nuclear threat and strengthen its nuclear deterrent,” the publication pointed out.

It was noted that the construction of the site 180 km from the border started in 2023.

“Some of the newly constructed facilities there have features unique to nuclear storage facilities at bases inside Russia. For example, a new, highly secure area is surrounded by three levels of fencing in addition in the existing security perimeter of the entire base, which is connected to what appears to be a hidden Soviet-era underground bunker,” the newspaper wrote.

In the past, the Russian Federation has transferred nuclear warheads to Belarus, and this year Belarus announced that it was joining Russia in exercises to deploy tactical nuclear weapons.

We remind you that on May 6 it became known that Russia will conduct nuclear weapons training. This was in response to “provocative statements and threats by some Western officials against the Russian Federation,” the Russian Ministry of Defense said.

Later, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused Western countries of allegedly “aggravating” the situation in Ukraine, and this required a response from the Russian Federation.
