European leaders are increasingly talking about the high risk of a large-scale war between Russia and NATO member countries.
The governments of NATO allies should increase defense spending because of the threat of a major war with Russia. British Foreign Secretary David Cameron announced this on Thursday, May 9, Politico wrote.
The head of British diplomacy criticized European allies who “do not want to invest (in defense – ed.) even if there is a war on our continent.”
He called on NATO allies to set a “new benchmark” for defense spending of 2.5% of GDP. In turn, London has pledged to reach 2.5% by 2030.
Cameron also said that “certainly security will be on the ballot” in Britain’s general election this autumn.
“This world is more dangerous, more unstable, more confrontational than most of us know. We must recognize this fact and act accordingly – not in a year or two, not in a few months, but now,” said of the head of the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs
It was previously reported that this year European NATO members will collectively spend more than 2% of GDP on defense for the first time.
