About 80 thousand people have fled the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip since Monday, May 6, because of the shearing of the Israeli army, which is conducting a military operation to destroy Hamas. The UN reports this in relation to the Palestine Refugee Agency (UNRWA).
The IDF has previously ordered refugees in eastern Rafah, who moved there from other areas of Gaza, to evacuate to the al-Mawasi “humanitarian zone”.
UNRWA estimates that as of Wednesday, May 8, nearly fifty thousand people have left their shelters in Rafah.
According to the agency, “significant bombing” continued in eastern Rafah on Thursday morning and throughout the night.
The Kerem Shalom checkpoint near Rafah reopened after a multi-day shutdown.
