The former commander of the Ukrainian army has maintained silence of information since February after his resignation from the post of commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who did not appear in public for a long time after resigning from office, became more active in the field of media and social networks. First, he published a photo on his Facebook page, and then met with one of the Ukrainian singers and went to Lina Kostenko’s house.
“There’s life in an old dog”
On May 4, for the first time in more than two months of public silence, Zaluzhny made a post on Facebook. He published a photo showing a torn cartridge case from a pistol cartridge.
“25 meters Glock 17. Still have gunpowder in the flasks,” Zaluzhny captioned the photo.
The former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not give any other explanations. Let’s just remember that his initial message was dated February 24.
Meeting with Fedyshyn
A few days later, social networks were captivated by a video of Zaluzhny with his favorite singer. So, the artist Irina Fedyshyn reported on May 7 that before traveling in support of the Ukrainian army to the USA and Canada, she stopped in Kyiv for an important purpose: the former commander-in-chief left his signature on the lots of the charity, which the singer will raffle to the audience at performances abroad.
In particular, Zaluzhny signed 25 Ukrainian flags. All funds raised will go to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to Fedyshyn, he and Zaluzhny were writing on Facebook, and the general, at his request, responded: “Dog, no problem.”
The actress also received a letter from her as a gift signed “Irina Fedyshyn deserves an encouraging glance from the steel general.” In response, Fedyshyn sang a song for Zaluzhny Small hands.
Over time, the general admitted that he knew this composition.
“I never thought I’d hear this song live,” he said.
The performer himself spoke warmly about the meeting with the “Steel General”.
“It’s like a meeting, you know, even though I’m also famous, I have experience, but I don’t know, it has some kind of magical influence,” said Fedyshyn.
“My Vitalik said: “Ira, control yourself!” – it’s just charming, like a friendly guy, “he admitted.
Honorary Citizen of Kyiv
Now Zaluzhny was awarded the title Honorary citizen of the city of Kyiv. However, the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not receive the title at a session of the Kyiv City Council, but was presented to Zaluzhny by the mayor of the capital, Vitaliy Klitschko, at the home of the writer Lina Kostenko, who received also an honorary title.
Zaluzhny was reportedly awarded for his personal services during the defense of the capital and defense of the state sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.
Resignation and new position
Let’s recall that on February 8, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky removed Valery Zaluzhny from the position of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the backdrop of the gradual deterioration of the situation during the defense of Avdiivka. Among the reasons for his decision, the president also named the failure of the summer counteroffensive, the gradual “stagnation” of the situation on the front after it and, as a result, the “need for change.”
In early March, Zelensky announced that he had agreed to Zaluzhny’s candidacy for the appointment as Ukraine’s ambassador to the UK. The OPU then noted that the procedure for processing the necessary documents for the appointment of a general has already been launched, and the final appointment has not yet been officially announced. Zaluzhny is expected to begin his new duties in the coming weeks.
Zaluzhny himself did not comment on the new goal. Let’s remember that until July 2023, Vadim Prystaiko is Ukraine’s ambassador to Britain.
