The press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General and the National Police reported this today, May 8.
The Ukrayinska Pravda publication, citing sources in law enforcement agencies, reports that we are talking about Igor Kolomoisky.
According to the investigation:
- the suspect, acting out of personal revenge, in 2003 ordered the murder of the director of one of the law firms for failure to comply with the requirements to annul and invalidate the decisions of the general meeting of shareholders of an open joint-stock company. The businessman had a personal commercial interest in the operation of the metallurgical plant, and the decision of the shareholders’ meeting did not allow him to fully implement his profit plan;
- to realize criminal intentions, the suspect recruited members of a gang that “specialized” in committing serious and especially serious crimes, including physical violence against competitors;
- in August 2003, they met a lawyer in the middle of the day at the exit of a store in the city of Feodosia (Crimea). The attackers struck the victim on the head with a metal rod and stabbed him in the chest, stomach and back. The victim’s wife prevented the attackers from finishing off her husband, and the doctors managed to save his life;
- A few days later, all four perpetrators of the crime were detained and later sentenced to imprisonment for terms ranging from six to 12 years. The investigation into identifying who ordered the murder of the lawyer was separated into a separate proceeding.
For attempted premeditated murder, committed by order and by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, punishment is provided in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to fifteen years or life imprisonment, the police note.
Today, 23 searches are being carried out in four regions of the state as part of this proceeding to collect additional evidence.
Currently, prosecutors and investigators are taking urgent investigative and procedural actions aimed at exposing all persons involved in the crime. The suspected businessman is in custody, the Office of the Prosecutor General adds.
