The organization assured that it “will continue to provide support to Ukraine in the field of assistance and protection against chemical weapons.”
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) said that the information available to the organization about the possible use of toxic substances in Ukraine is “insufficiently substantiated.” This was stated in a statement by the organization on its website, published on Tuesday, May 7.
“Both the Russian Federation and Ukraine have accused each other and reported to the Organization the possible use of chemical weapons. All official correspondence between the States Parties regarding such allegations and accusations shall posted on the OPCW’s public website and regularly updated. The information provided to the Organization by both parties to date, as well as the information available to the Secretariat, has not been sufficiently verified,” the statement said.
The OPCW said the situation “remains fragile and deeply worrying” regarding the possible continuation of the use of toxic chemicals as weapons.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and remain ready to act,” the statement said.
The OPCW “will continue to provide assistance and protection against chemical weapons to Ukraine, at its request,” according to the Chemical Weapons Convention.
The Organization also paid attention to the statement of the US to Russia about the use of chloropicrin during the conflict, as well as the methods of combating the disturbances. For its part, the Russian Federation denies the use of such weapons.

All 193 member states of the OPCW, including the Russian Federation and Ukraine, have pledged never to develop, produce, purchase, stockpile, transfer or use chemical weapons.
As you know, Russia lost its seat on the OPCW Executive Council. Based on the results of the voting held at the 28th Conference of States Parties of the Organization from the Eastern European Group, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine received seats on the OPCW Executive Council.
Let’s remember that in early March it was reported that the Russians used chemical weapons in the direction of Zaporozhye.
