Budapest plans to sign at least 16 agreements with Beijing during Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s visit to Hungary on May 8. This was announced by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó, Bloomberg reports.
According to the publication, there should be a total of 18 bilateral agreements, but two of them are still under negotiation.
The remaining 16 agreements will focus on expanding Hungary’s participation in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, including additional rail, road and energy projects. In addition, the countries will also consider the possibility of cooperation in the nuclear field.
Bloomberg said Hungary has one of the most pro-Chinese governments in the EU and is resisting international pressure to reduce economic ties with Beijing. Hungary has also become one of the main destinations for new Chinese investment in Europe.
