This fall, the Netherlands will begin transferring F-16 fighters to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the head of the Dutch Ministry of Defense said.
The Netherlands plans to begin transferring F-16 fighter jets in the fall. This will be followed by Denmark’s lead. This was announced by the head of the Dutch Ministry of Defense, Kaisa Ollongren, at a briefing in Vilnius on Monday, May 6, Delfi reports.
“We have already planned everything according to the project – this includes the training of Ukrainian pilots, the training of maintenance personnel, and the actual transfer of the aircraft,” he said.
Ollongren noted that Ukrainian pilots are currently undergoing training in several countries.
“And if we can maintain this direction of travel, and Ukraine will do everything that works, of course, on their own territory, then Denmark will be the first to supply aircraft this summer, And we, along with our F-16s, are hoping to join deliveries from the fall,” he added.
It was previously reported that Ukraine may receive the first F-16 fighter in the summer of 2024. The Ministry of Defense also said that all necessary decisions on the acquisition of F-16 aircraft have been made and the process is “moving according to plan.” And the Air Force assured that the appearance of the F-16 was not unexpected.
