The Russians expect F-16 fighters to appear at the front in Ukraine “in the near future.”
The aggressor country Russia recognizes American F-16 fighters as carriers of nuclear weapons. Their appearance in Ukraine’s arsenal will be a “provocation” on the part of the United States and NATO. This statement was released by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday, May 6.
“In the near future, the American-made multirole F-16 aircraft is expected to appear in the Ukrainian theater of operations, as the Russian side has repeatedly indicated, we cannot ignore the fact that the aircraft that it belongs to dual equipment platforms – non-nuclear and nuclear,” said the press service of Sergei Lavrov.
Moscow claims that aircraft of this particular type have for many years been the basis of the aircraft fleet involved in NATO’s “common nuclear missions”.
“Regardless of the specific modification that will be given to these aircraft, we will think of them as carriers of nuclear weapons and will consider this step by the United States and NATO as a target of provocation,” added the Russian Foreign Ministry.
It was previously reported that Ukraine may receive the first F-16 fighter in the summer of 2024. The Ministry of Defense also said that all necessary decisions on the acquisition of F-16 aircraft have been made and the process is “moving according to plan.” And the air force ensured that the appearance of the F-16 would be a surprise.
