We are talking about “increasing the readiness of non-strategic nuclear forces to carry out combat missions,” this department of the aggressor state reported.
During the exercises, the Ministry of Defense plans to work out the issue of “preparation and use of non-strategic nuclear weapons” (also called tactical) with the aim of “unconditionally ensuring the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Russian state in response to provocative statements and threats of individual Western officials” addressed to Russia.
The exercises will be held “soon.” Missile formations of the Southern Military District will participate in them with the involvement of aviation, as well as forces of the Navy. The location of the exercises has not been announced.
At the end of February 2024, the Financial Times newspaper reported on the receipt of secret documents on Russian tactical nuclear weapons. They said that the threshold for its use by Russia seems to be lower than what the Russian authorities officially state – the military can use tactical nuclear weapons in the event of an invasion by Chinese troops, as well as to “restrain states from aggression… or escalation of military conflicts.”
