According to ISW analysts, on the night of May 3-4, Russian troops made a noticeable tactical advance northwest of Avdeevka in the Arkhangelskoye area.
Experts speculate that Ukrainian troops may have decided to trade space for time while awaiting the arrival of large-scale US aid to the front in the coming weeks – an appropriate solution for an under-resourced force at risk of being flanked.
However, ISW continues to assess that Russian forces are likely attempting to take advantage of the limited window of time before Western military assistance arrives by intensifying offensive operations, and that Russian forces may take further tactical steps in this direction in the near future.
