This is the first time that any candidate for mayor of London has won a third consecutive term.
The current mayor of London, Pakistani Sadiq Khan, won a historic third term in this position, ahead of his Conservative rival Susan Hall, reports Sky News.
“Labour’s Sadiq Khan secured a historic third term as Mayor of London by defeating Conservative challenger Susan Hall,” the report said.
Khan was noted to have received just over 1,088,000 votes (43.7%), enough to be re-elected, a majority of 275,000 votes over Hall, who received just under 812,000 votes (32.6%). Voter turnout was 40.5%.
It is the first time any London mayoral candidate has won a third term, as Khan’s predecessors Boris Johnson and Ken Livingstone each served two terms in office.
Khan, 53, who became the British capital’s first Muslim mayor in 2016, has pledged to build more social housing and work with a future national Labor government to strengthen law enforcement.
Opinion polls predict Labor will win the next national election, bringing Labor Party leader Keir Starmer to power and ending 14 years of Conservative rule in Britain.
It will be remembered that a survey showed that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party may lose in the 2024 elections.
Earlier it was reported that London took the second place in the list of the largest financial centers in the world.
