The US Air Force has entered into a contract with Scientific Applications and Research Associates for Home-on GPS sensors, the Military publication reports.
These sensors will be equipped with JDAM-ER kits installed on aircraft bombs.
It is noted that plans to provide Ukraine with JDAM-ER with new sensors come amid growing reports that Russian obstacles are seriously reducing the effectiveness of allied-supplied GPS-guided munitions, including JDAM-ER.
The Home-on GPS system will enable Ukrainian JDAM-ERs to target GPS jammers, turning one of the weapons most affected by this Russian countermeasure into a weapon that is used to directly defeat it.
According to the contract, Scientific Applications and Research Associates will receive $23 million for “the acquisition of Home-on GPS jammers” and their integration into Joint Direct Attack Munition kits.
JDAM-ERs have been used in Ukraine since at least March 2023. Soviet MiG-29 and Su-27 aircraft are used to use these weapons.
