The long-term plans of the Russian Federation may include an attack on the North Atlantic Alliance, according to West.

The Russian Federation may not attack NATO countries directly, but hybrid attacks such as signal jamming and election interference will continue. The new commander of the Finnish Armed Forces, General Janne Jaakkola, announced this on Thursday, May 2, Reuters reports.

He noted that a number of politicians and military personnel in the West are taking seriously a possible Russian attack, however, in his opinion, the Russian Federation would not dare to confront NATO openly.

“Of course, testing Article 5 is always possible, but if we take the right steps and maintain unity, I consider an attack unlikely,” Jaakkola said.

In his opinion, Russia is too busy preparing for a new summer offensive in Ukraine to consider attacking NATO now.

Jaakkola pointed out that Russia is more focused on sowing discord in European countries.
