The flags of the Ukrainian fleet were raised on the patrol boats Irpin and Reni. The names of the boats P01 “Roland” and P02 “Risto”, which Ukraine received from Estonia in 2024, were given in honor of the hero city of Irpen and the city of Reni, whose port is the closest to the Republic of Estonia. The Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook on May 2.
Today’s ceremony was attended by the leadership of the Ukrainian fleet and the Estonian delegation led by the commander of the Estonian Navy, Komodor Jüri Saska.
At the end of the ceremony, the guests had the opportunity, during the passage by sea, to get acquainted with the arrangement of the boats, their performance and see the consequences of Russian attacks on the port infrastructure of Ukraine.
The command noted that Irpen and Reni will carry out combat missions, including the protection of civilian shipping.
Let us recall that in March the Belgian government announced the allocation of a new package of military assistance for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the amount of 412 million euros. In particular, Ukraine will receive three Alkmaar class minesweepers.
One of the minesweepers Narcis (M923) was launched in 1990. This ship specializes in detecting and clearing mines at sea. It is equipped with sophisticated sonar systems to detect mines and uses a variety of techniques, such as remotely operated devices, to neutralize threats.
