According to agreements with Swiss President Viola Amherd, this event will take place on June 15-16 in Bürgenstock, near the city of Lucerne. Heads of state and government from all continents are invited and expected to participate. President Vladimir Zelensky announced this on the social network X.
The Ukrainian leader emphasized that this summit will become a platform for discussing ways to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace for Ukraine in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
The head of state also expressed confidence that every peace-loving country will be interested in taking part in the summit, because it is important not only for Ukraine.
It is about the global role of each country, as well as genuine respect for international law and peaceful coexistence throughout the world. These general rules, enshrined in the UN Charter, protect all countries from attack and violence. So, it is our shared global responsibility to protect them with real actions, not just words. This is exactly what will be discussed at the first peace summit in Switzerland, the report says.
Let us recall that in early April, Bloomberg reported that a high-level peace summit, which Switzerland agreed to host for Ukraine, could take place on June 16-17. Between 80 and 100 countries, mostly from the so-called Global South, are expected to be invited to the event.
