Communication with Russia may take place after the summit. Only then can it be part of the negotiations, the minister said.
There is no point sitting at the negotiating table with Russia, because it is not possible to get actions from it. And the global Peace Summit involves the creation of a coalition of countries that share the same principles. Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said this in an interview with Foreign Policy, published the previous day.
“We know there’s no point in bringing Russia to the negotiating table if you can’t get it to act in good faith. There are only two ways to get Russia into a situation where it acts in good faith. The first is victory on the ground of war, and the second is the creation of a coalition of countries that share the same principles and strategies,” he said.
Therefore, according to the head of the Foreign Ministry, Russia is not expected to participate in the global peace summit.
“Because the purpose of this summit is to unite countries that share principles and strategies on the basis of which they will develop additional actions,” he emphasized.
Kuleba added that only after the summit can communication with Russia take place and it can become part of the negotiations.
“Ultimately, you can’t end a war without both sides,” he admitted.
As you know, the peace summit will take place on June 15-16 in Switzerland. The Ukrainian side expects that 80-100 countries of the world will participate in this event.
At the same time, the Office of the President ruled out Russia’s participation in the first Peace Summit, but there is a possibility that its representatives will be at the second summit.
A week ago, President Vladimir Zelensky announced that Russia was planning to disrupt the Peace Summit. According to him, this is confirmed by intelligence data.
