The Russian Federation is launching illegal chemical gas attacks against military personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The United States has accused Russia of using banned chemical weapons in Ukraine. This was said on Wednesday, May 1, in a message from the US State Department about the introduction of new sanctions against Russia.
The sanctions were introduced, as the report says, to increase the Kremlin’s costs associated with external aggression and internal repression.
According to the report, the State Department concluded that Russia used the toxic substance chloropicrin against the Ukrainian military. It is emphasized that this substance is included in the black list of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
“Chloropicrin does not belong to the nerve-paralytic – the most dangerous – toxic substances, but has an irritant and, in high concentrations, it was used especially during the First World War,” said the report.
It was also noted that Russian troops are using in Ukraine irritating substances of similar quality, often used by the police to disperse demonstrations. This, as the American department notes, is not about individual cases, but about targeted tactics to achieve tactical success on the battlefield.
It is noted that Russia continues to violate the OPCW convention, as in the case of the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripach and Alexei Navalny with the Novichok nerve agent.
The Ukrainian military has previously disclosed the use of chemicals on the battlefield by Russian troops. There are no reports of casualties as a result of their use, or whether it brought any success to the Russian troops.
Moscow has not yet responded to the US statement.
More than 200 individuals and companies are included in the Ministry of Finance’s new sanctions list. The State Department has directly imposed sanctions against another 80 companies. This includes the radiological, chemical and biological defense troops of the Russian Ministry of Defense, as well as two research institutes allegedly related to the development of chemical and biological weapons.
We remind you that the Ukrainian Armed Forces recently reported that about 400 cases of the use of chemical weapons by the Russian Army were recorded in one month.
It was previously reported that the Russian Federation was using toxic substances in the direction of Novopavlovsk.
