The event occurred around 01.15. Astronomer of the Kharkov Planetarium Vladimir Kazhanov spoke about this on his Facebook page.
The phenomenon was noticed in Poltava, Sumy, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye regions, he noted. — The flight of this “superball” was accompanied by flashes and one could notice the difference in the color of its track. The brightness was such that objects on the ground cast shadows.
It is noted that the cause of this phenomenon is the entry into the Earth’s atmosphere of a significant meteorite (small asteroid).
According to first estimates, its size can be from 0.5 to several meters. There is a high probability of meteorites (remains, fragments of this cosmic body) falling onto the surface of the earth, Kazhanov noted.
The astronomer urges everyone who witnessed this phenomenon and remembers the details to leave a report on the website of the International Meteor Organization here.
This will help to accurately determine the trajectory of the meteoroid, he added.
