It is known that it is the first Chinese aircraft carrier of a new generation, using three modern electromagnetic catapults (EMALS) to launch the aircraft, instead of ski-jumps with a short runway, as in the first two aircraft carriers – Liaoning (Liaoning) and Shandong (Shandong).
Previously, the Chinese Navy had two aircraft carriers. The first is Liaoning – was built on the basis of an unfinished Soviet carrier-based cruiser Varangian, China bought from Ukraine, the second – Shandong – created based on Liaoning. Both ships are equipped with a non-nuclear propulsion system.
