In April, Ukraine did not suspend the protection, but, on the contrary, changed and removed the clauses limiting some of the rights.
Ukraine did not introduce new restrictions within the framework of reducing the obligations fulfilled under the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms reduced the list of restrictions. Justice Minister Denis Malyuska announced this on Facebook on Monday, April 29.
Responding to media information about the “suspension of property rights protection and free elections,” the head of the Ministry of Justice noted that the submitted statements are untrue in a certain sense of the word.
Malyuska recalled that in 2022, after the introduction of martial law, Ukraine warned the Council of Europe about possible restrictions on some human rights. According to him, all countries do this when they are at war.
“And in April 2024, we again clarified the list of existing restrictions and reduced it (regular review of our alerts and possible restrictions is also part of our international obligations),” said the minister.
And, according to him, in April Ukraine did not suspend the protection, but reviewed and removed the “warning about a possible restriction of certain rights.”
In this regard, Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets also said that the decision of Ukraine does not provide a restriction on human rights, but a partial removal of previously introduced restrictions.
“That is, Ukraine applied for restrictions even before this, but so far they have not been applied,” explained the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights.
We remind you that today information appeared on the website of the Council of Europe about restrictions on the rights of Ukrainians introduced by the Ukrainian authorities under martial law. In particular, we are talking about restrictions on movement, the possibility of confiscation of property, as well as restrictions on free movement.
