The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reports a sharp increase in the number of Ukrainian children killed as a result of Russian attacks. The confirmed number of child deaths in 2024 is reported to have increased by nearly 40% compared to 2023.

Official UN data show that attacks have killed at least 600 children and injured more than 1,350 since the war escalated in 2022, but UNICEF said the number of children killed and injured in Ukraine is probably higher.

UNICEF added that attacks on infrastructure, especially electricity and water supplies, put children’s lives and well-being at further risk.
