One of them has already been detained. This was reported today, April 26, by the press service of the DBI and the Odessa Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Defense of the Southern Region.
It is noted that after the tragic event on April 20, the attackers decided to flee abroad and turned to military acquaintances for help. One of them also left a military unit in the Odessa region without permission.
Despite the fact that it was already known that the father and son were wanted for the murder of a law enforcement officer, the defendants responded and decided to help, the DBI said.
It is noted that:
- one of the defendants handed over the car to flee abroad;
- the other went to pick up international passports and a mobile phone, which he later handed over to the attackers.
Having received consent, the wanted servicemen hid their car in the garage of the suspect’s father. They also took a colleague’s car and went to the city of Podolsk, Odessa region, where they were detained, the prosecutor’s office said. “For secrecy, the suspect purchased a mobile phone for those wanted and, along with passports for traveling abroad, gave them these things at a specified place.
On April 24, the DBR detained one of the servicemen who contributed to the escape of the suspects and left the military unit without permission.
For concealing a serious crime, a serviceman was informed of suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 396 of the Criminal Code, another, who left the military unit without permission, was informed of suspicion under Part 5 of Art. 407 of the Criminal Code.
