Last year, international cyberattacks on South Korean government agencies averaged 1.62 million per day.
Hackers from the DPRK attacked South Korean defense plants and stole data. Yonhap News reported this on Thursday, April 25.
“Hacker groups have penetrated the internal networks of South Korean defense companies and stolen technical data over the past 18 months,” police said.
According to law enforcement officials, three DPRK groups were involved in the cyber attack – Lazarus, Andariel and Kimsuky.
“Since the end of 2022, they have attacked 83 domestic defense companies. Ten companies have been confirmed to have been affected,” police said.
It was discovered that North Korea was using malicious code and stealing information from server accounts.
“The companies targeted were completely unaware of the attacks until the police and the National Intelligence Service (NIS) began investigating earlier this year,” police added.
At this time, North Korea stole technologies related to drone engines and submarine-launched ballistic missile launchers.
International cyberattacks on South Korean government agencies averaged 1.62 million per day last year, up 36 percent from a year earlier, according to the National Intelligence Agency. Of these, 80 percent were attacks from the North.
We remind you that Estonian government agencies experienced the largest wave of DDoS attacks in the entire history of the country. However, due to the swift action, the impact of the attack on the functioning of the institutions was negligible.
It was previously reported that the United States was able to stop the hacking activities of a Chinese group that attacked key government infrastructure, such as power grids and pipelines.
