The country’s Defense Minister Laurynas Kasciunas said that his country is still monitoring the mechanism developed by Poland.
No one, of course, will collect them and take them to Ukraine – this will not happen. But [можна обмежити цих осіб] in social payments, work permits, documents – these are the options that I hear from the Polish side,” Delfi quotes the minister.
Kasciunas admits that Lithuania is not yet considering specific measures for this and is monitoring what decisions Poland takes.
It is probably difficult to say yet what measures this will turn into. Perhaps this will need to be discussed specifically,” the minister said in the Seimas on Thursday.
The exact number of Ukrainians of military age in Lithuania is still difficult to determine, the minister admits.
As a reminder, this week Ukraine stopped issuing new passports to men of military age living abroad, according to legislation published on Wednesday. It is not yet clear to what extent and for what period this measure will be applied.
Earlier, the Minister of Defense of Poland announced the possibility of helping Ukraine in returning men of military age.
