In the capital, people are forced to flee to rooftops. Local authorities said the situation had escalated to an extreme level.
Almost half of Kenya was hit by flash floods, which left at least 32 people dead and 103,500 injured. CNN reported this on Wednesday, April 24.
It is worth noting that heavy rains have been recorded in Kenya since mid-March, but in the past week the downpour has intensified, leading to widespread flooding. The Kenya Red Cross has carried out more than 188 rescue efforts since the beginning of March.
Some roads in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, were blocked, and several areas remained under water after heavy rains.
“The situation in Nairobi has reached an extreme level. We need all national emergency services mobilized to save lives,” city senator Edwin Sifuna wrote on his X account.
He posted a video of residents trapped on the roofs of their homes in an informal settlement in Nairobi.

Some roads in the country were blocked, all commuter trains stopped running.
Meanwhile, the Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that heavy to very heavy rains will continue in some parts of the country on Thursday.
It was previously reported that residents of the Cherkasy region were warned about possible flooding due to rising water levels in the upper reaches of the Kremenchug reservoir.
Also in Kyiv, the water level in the Dnieper reached a record high. Currently, the flood does not threaten Kyiv. No emergency flooding was recorded in the city.
