The draft law providing for $61 billion in aid to Ukraine was supported by 79 senators. 18 senators spoke out against aid to Ukraine. Now this document must be signed by American President Joe Biden. This was reported in the broadcast of the vote in the US Senate.
As you know, out of a total amount of 61 billion dollars. $49.9 billion provided for defense spending, $1.57 billion. another $400 million will be allocated for economic assistance. – for border protection and humanitarian demining.
The bill also includes $7.8 billion. direct budget support, but in the form of a loan. American officials will determine the terms of this loan in a separate agreement. In the future, this loan may be written off by the US President, but this may be done after the elections in November 2024.
The US is expected to transfer to Ukraine:
- Bradley fighting vehicles;
- “Humvees”;
- M113 armored personnel carriers;
- artillery;
- air defense systems;
- rockets.
- ATACMS high-precision long-range missiles.
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and Prime Minister Denis Shmigal have already thanked the senators for an important decision for the defense capability of our country.
The head of state noted that he looks forward to the soon signing of the bill and the provision of the next package of military assistance.
And the head of government, Shmigal, said that during a conversation with the leader of the Democratic majority in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, he received assurances that Ukraine’s support is undeniable, and the law will be adopted as quickly as possible.
Let us remind you that Reuters reported that the United States is preparing a military aid package for Ukraine worth $1 billion. and this package will be allocated as part of the 61 billion bill, which had to be approved by the Senate.
And CNN reported that most of the American aid to Ukraine has already been stored in warehouses in Germany and Poland and is ready to be sent.
