New military aid will go to Ukraine once the Senate completes its passage and President Joe Biden signs the legislation.
Ukraine will receive a new package of American military aid “as soon as possible” – upon completion of its approval in Congress. This was said by the US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia James O’Brien, European Pravda reports.
According to him, the new military aid from the United States will be in Ukraine “as soon as possible, as soon as the Senate does its work” and President Joe Biden signs the corresponding law.
The State Department official declined to specify what exactly might be in this package, but stressed that it is about “substantial help that Ukraine needs on the battlefield to achieve victory.”
“The bill has clauses about strengthening air defense. We are not only talking about Patriot. We are also talking about systems that defeat drones, slow missiles and other ways in which the Russia to attack. Therefore, there will be tools that will help here,” – said O’Brien.
The US Assistant Secretary of State also added that despite delays in receiving additional funding to help Ukraine, the United States has sent some military aid to Kyiv in recent weeks in response to the situation on the battlefield.
O’Brien explained that a few weeks ago the US announced an additional weapons package, but did not specify what kind of weapons they were talking about.
The package helped address some of Russia’s capabilities in both long-range missed fire and front-line counterattacks, a State Department official said.
We remind you that on April 20, the House of Representatives of the American Congress passed a bill to provide almost $61 billion in aid to Ukraine. Most of this impressive amount will go to military support.
Congressmen also approved the seizure of Russian fixed assets. Ukraine can expect up to $8 billion.
