Total global military spending in 2023 rose to a new all-time high of $2.443 trillion. This was reported by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) on Monday, April 22.
It is indicated that military spending will increase by 6.8% compared to 2022. The growth has occurred for nine years in a row and is the highest for 15 years – since 2009.
Also for the first time since 2009, global military spending increased in all five geographic regions defined by SIPRI, with particularly strong increases recorded in Europe, Asia and Oceania, and the Middle East.
“The unprecedented increase in military expenditure is a direct response to the global deterioration of peace and security,” said Nan Tian,aa University ́úu tạpới senior fellow in the Military Expenditure and Arms Production Program at SIPRI.

At the same time, Russian military spending has risen 24% to an estimated $109 billion by 2023, up 57% since 2014, when Russia temporarily occupied Crimea.
Military spending by NATO’s 31 member nations reached $1.341 trillion last year, accounting for 55% of global military spending.
Also, US military spending increased by 2.3%, to $916 billion in 2023, representing 68% of NATO’s total military spending.
China spent an estimated $296 billion in military spending in 2023, up 6% from 2022. China accounts for half of total military spending in Asia and Oceania.
Let’s remember that in 2024 Ukraine has a resource of $6 billion for the purchase of weapons, especially from domestic manufacturers. At the same time, the wealth of the Ukrainian defense industry is about $20 billion a year.
