Chinese companies continue to supply Russia with parts for cruise missiles and drones, as well as other technologies that have allowed Moscow to increase its defense production.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to China next week to convey Washington’s displeasure with Chinese companies’ support for Russia’s military machine. Blinken also wants to make sure relations with Beijing “stay on track” again, Bloomberg wrote on Saturday, April 20.
It was noted that while China did not cross the “red line” of the US by offering lethal assistance to Russia in the form of arms or ammunition, Blinken, during a visit to Shanghai and Beijing April 24-26, was warn that Washington and its allies are united in their opposition to China’s role.
The trip is the latest in a series of visits by senior US officials as Beijing and Washington seek to fulfill pledges made in San Francisco last year to ease tensions that led to a near breakdown in ties.
Those efforts have been complicated by what US officials say is a decision by Chinese companies to continue supplying parts for cruise missiles, drones and other technologies that allow Moscow to strengthen defense production during its invasion of Ukraine.
“The two superpowers continue to clash in other ways. In recent days, President Joe Biden has called Beijing “xenophobic” and vowed to raise tariffs on Chinese steel and aluminum exports. . . .Blinken is likely to reaffirm US support for Taiwan ahead of Lai Ching-te’s inauguration in May, which could provoke a response from Beijing,” the publication wrote.
It was also noted that Blinken had to discuss the issues of American detainees in China.
Let’s remember that in November last year, US President Joe Biden met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Among the three main topics of the negotiations were the war in Ukraine and Russia’s refusal to end it.
