Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied an increase in domestic violence in Russia because of the war against Ukraine.
No alarming trends in increasing cases of domestic violence in Russia have not recorded anything like this. This is what Russian Presidential Speaker Dmitry Peskov said, RosSMI reported on Thursday, April 18.
Journalists asked Peskov if the Kremlin had statistics on a possible increase in domestic violence, including the involvement of military personnel returning from the war in Ukraine.
The representative of the Kremlin noted that recently the President of Russia Vladimir Putin took part in an extended meeting of the board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“And these types of violence did not appear in the indicators of concern,” said Peskov.
However, according to Russian media, due to the outbreak of war in the Russian Federation, cases of domestic violence are increasingly being recorded where the aggressors are former or current military personnel. Human rights activists say the authorities are covering up criminals.
Let’s remember that in August 2023 in Karelia, an amnesty prisoner of Wagner who returned from the war in Ukraine, together with a friend, killed six people. In March, a mercenary from PMC Wagner, sentenced to 14 years for murder, returned to his native village after amnesty for participation in the war against Ukraine and killed someone.
