Member of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, People’s Deputy Alexey Goncharenko, announced this today, April 17, in his Telegram channel.
It is also important that in the PACE decision the elections in Russia were called so-called and instead of being far from honest and fair, they were called not fair and unfair. “I emphasized this and defended it,” Goncharenko noted.
In addition, PACE called on European countries to adopt “Magnitsky laws”, which would allow the introduction of personal sanctions against those involved in serious human rights violations.
In particular, the Assembly adopted a Resolution calling for the imposition of sanctions against those involved in the case of Vladimir Kara-Murza and demanding his immediate release from Russian prison,” Goncharenko noted.
The Magnitsky Act is a law in the United States and several other countries that contains a list of Russian officials involved in fraud, harassment and human rights violations, in particular related to the death in pre-trial detention of Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky in 2009. Economic sanctions have been imposed on persons included on this list.
