The United States has said NATO’s obligations to Lithuania are “ironic”, and an attack on it would mean an attack on the entire alliance.

The U.S. State Department has said NATO will fight for Lithuania in case the Russian Federation attacks. About this in a briefing on Tuesday, June 21, declared State Department spokesman.

“NATO’s obligations to Lithuania are‘ ironic ’and our commitment to Article 5 (an attack on an alliance member means an attack on everyone),” the State Department said, commenting on the conflict between the two countries.

Recall, on June 18, Lithuania blocked railway transit in the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation up to 50% of the goods that fell under EU sanctions.

This provoked a strong reaction in the Kremlin. Russia’s chief of staff Dmitry Peskov called Lithuania’s restrictions “unprecedented and illegal,” and Andrey Klimov, head of the Federation Council’s commission for the protection of state sovereignty, vowed to resolve the dispute. “Vilnius’s impudent trick” somehow.
